Bright Class

Safe study rooms and student mentors for children living in orphanages, care homes and similar institutions in Kathmandu.

PlannedKathmandu, Nepal

What is the project?

Bright Class is an education project for children living under difficult conditions in Kathmandu. In each selected institution, a suitable room becomes a classroom or study room, and grade 11 and 12 students support the children as mentors during regular study time.

Why is it needed?

Many orphanages, madrasas and child care institutions in Kathmandu have no quiet room where children can study, too few tables, chairs and learning materials, and no one to guide the children during study time.

Who does it support?

Children living in orphanages, care homes for children with disabilities, madrasas and other institutions for children in need, and grade 11 and 12 students who take part as mentors.

What is TimeToShare doing?

  • Visiting institutions and assessing their needs
  • Preparing and equipping a classroom or study room: tables, chairs, a writing board, shelves, stationery and learning materials
  • Selecting grade 11 and 12 students as mentors
  • Starting regular study sessions of about two hours under a mentor's supervision
  • Monitoring progress and helping each institution find local supporters, so the program can continue on its own
